Imaginary Friend

I was my first imaginary friend

I felt it in my bones

With me around, I’d never be alone

I saw every tear, every hurt, every scar

An imaginary friend could only offer words

And I’d sometimes have to look away

Then one day I saw no one at all

No one I knew, anyway

The friend I once was somehow hidden away

I missed my friend, but I was lost

Chasing the monster in my head

My second childhood friend

I just want to hide me away

Away from all the tears and the pain

Where no one can find me out

So I will come back to my friend

The one who forgot I was real

And shelter him from the rain
